Lighting incense may not hurt, but it can be potentially distracting.
Scents can open their own doors, but they may not lead you where youre trying to go, more where they want to take you. which is fun in its own way every once in a while.
if you cant make this sort of building, you can always rely on white noise, music of your own choice, and a locked door if possible, but prepare to get harassed at some point if you dont live alone. Even if you have the most emotionally supportive and introverted family in the world, you will need to expect interruptions at some point I suspect.
nature is another alternative. its very very pure, loving, and wonderful and there are so many spirits that will be happy to guide you on your way you dont even know..
but best bet is find the spot furthest away from human actions and sounds because they will purposely annoy the shit out of you just because they can.
ultimately, though, the sanctuary isnt necessary once you reach a certain level of concentration and psychic ability, but something to its effect is a necessity to starting out.
its always nice to have under any circumstances though because who in their right mind doesnt like a quiet retreat from society.
the truth of the matter is, though, this is all true and valid, but only people on my own level are likely to recognize its value right off the bat.
